If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to bring your garden to life while saving water and money, we have a solution for you! West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin or District), in partnership with Metropolitan Water District, Los Angeles County Waterworks No. 29 (Waterworks), the City of Malibu and TreePeople is offering Malibu and Topanga residents the opportunity to bring California native plants to their yards – affordably and easily.
Through a grant secured in collaboration with the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District and Waterworks, residents can pre-purchase up to five Native Garden Kits for $70 each - a $50 savings per kit.
The summer program offers six uniquely curated garden design palettes to choose from with simple instructions on watering and sun exposure needs.
Each kit includes:
- Ten one-gallon native plants (designed for any 10’x10’ or 100 square foot space)
- A “plant-by-number” site map
- A step-by-step installation guide
- Education materials on water-wise gardening
Only 150 Native Garden Kits are offered on a first-come, first-served basis until August 31, 2025 or while supplies last, whichever comes first. Pre-purchased kits will be available for pick-up exclusively at Malibu City Hall in November or December.
Visit WestBasinCA.gov/native-plant-kit to get your garden kit while supplies last! A representative from TreePeople will send emails in October to schedule a pick-up time.
