What could be better than a free and simple way to conserve drinking water in your own home by harvesting and storing rainwater to irrigate your landscape later in the year? If that piques your interest, then wait no longer! West Basin Municipal Water District is thrilled to announce the return of its Rain Barrel Giveaway Program. This is your chance to practice water conservation, improve water efficiency and prepare to take advantage of the upcoming rainy season. Rain barrels make that effort practical and easy.
West Basin will host six giveaway events throughout the District’s service area in the coming months for anyone who lives in the service area to receive up to two rain barrels!
Rain barrels are helpful in many ways:
- Water Conservation - Each rain barrel can hold up to 50 gallons of harvested rainwater, allowing you to capture and store a substantial amount of water during rainy
periods which can be used for watering plants and other outdoor purposes.
- Water Savings - Using rain barrels can save approximately 620 gallons of water each year.
- Value - Each rain barrel is valued at $80, making this program not only environmentally friendly but also a cost-effective way for you to save money.
- Environmental Impact - Collecting rainwater helps prevent runoff and water waste during rainy seasons, contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly community.
West Basin will be distributing a total of 1,500 rain barrels at the following events:
- September 13, 2025 – Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility, El Segundo, 8 am – 11 am (300 rain barrels)
