California Government Leaders Honored with "Legislator of the Year" Awards

West Basin Board of Directors Recognize Visionary Champions of California’s Water Future

As California continues to lead the nation in innovative water management, West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) proudly announces its 2024 “Legislator of the Year” award recipients. This annual recognition honors state and federal lawmakers whose leadership and dedication have been instrumental in advancing water sustainability policies and vital conservation efforts.

“Securing a reliable, safe and sustainable water supply takes more than infrastructure – it takes vision, bold action and strong partnerships,” said West Basin Board President and Division II Director Gloria Gray. “West Basin is proud to recognize these dedicated state and federal legislators for their steadfast commitment to water resiliency and instrumental roles in shaping a future where access to clean, high-quality water is protected now and in the years ahead.”

This year’s awardees demonstrated unwavering support for water reliability initiatives, conservation programs and the infrastructure investments needed to protect and preserve California’s water future.

State Honorees:

  • Gavin Newsom, California Governor
  • Ben Allen, Senator, 24th District
  • Robert Rivas, Assembly Speaker, 29th District
  • Rick Chavez Zbur, Assemblymember, 51st District

Federal Honorees:

  • Alex Padilla, U.S. Senator
  • Adam Schiff, U.S. Senator
  • Jared Huffman, U.S. Representative, 2nd District

These awards were presented during legislative briefings in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., where West Basin leaders met with elected officials to discuss critical funding opportunities and policy initiatives that support regional water resiliency.
