Malibu Rain Barrel Giveaway Rescheduled for Saturday, April 26

Post Date:04/10/2025

West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin or District) has rescheduled the Malibu rain barrel giveaway event! You can register now to pick up a rain barrel on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Malibu City Hall from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.

The annual Rain Barrel Program makes water conservation accessible to people who want an easy way to incorporate sustainability into their lives. This year, West Basin hosted five previous drive-through pick-up events at locations throughout the service area and gave away 1,400 barrels in Inglewood, El Segundo, Gardena, Rolling Hills Estates, and Lomita.

At the upcoming giveaway event in Malibu, the District will distribute 100 rain barrels to residents who live in the service area on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Qualified and interested individuals must register ahead of time at www.westbasin.org/rain-barrels to receive up to two free 50-gallon rain barrels, valued at about $80 each.

This giveaway is part of a District-wide water efficiency initiative designed to reduce reliance on imported water by capturing and reusing rainwater that would otherwise go to waste. Depending on rainfall conditions, a single rain barrel can save up to 620 gallons of water each year. Using rain barrels supports California’s collective community commitment to conservation and sustainable water use! On top of that, participating in this rainwater capture effort supports eligibility for residents within the service area to take advantage of West Basin’s Grass Replacement Rebate Program, which offers up to $30,000 for removing turf from residential properties.
