Two West Basin Student Art Entries Featured in 2025 "Being Water Wise Is..." Calendar

Post Date:12/16/2024

Two student artists representing the cities of Redondo Beach and Lennox from the West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin or District) Divisions V and III service area were recognized by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) as winners of the regional art contest competition for inspiring smart water use and environmental sustainability.

Their artwork will be featured in the MWD 2025 “Being Water Wise Is…” calendar as part of 37 total selections, both appearing in the month of November.

Students Elizabeth De La Vega from Lennox Academy of Mathematics, Science, and Technology and Lucy Um from Lincoln Elementary School in Redondo Beach joined approximately 30 regional students at an in-person celebration on December 12, 2024, at the MWD Headquarters. The students attended the ceremony after their entries were selected by MWD from a very competitive regional pool of submissions.

De La Vega’s “Being Water Wise is Preserving Mother Earth” and Um’s “Being Water Wise Starts at Home” were first selected by West Basin staff as part of the District’s 2024 student art contest. The District then advanced the submissions to MWD’s contest to compete against submissions from other member agencies.
