Starting on September 1, the grass replacement rebate for public agencies and businesses within the West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) service area was increased to an all-time high of $7 per square foot.
Now is the perfect time to save money while removing thirsty, water-wasting turf spaces in preparation for the upcoming statewide non-functional turf irrigation ban. Starting in January 2027, non-residential properties in California, such as city properties, office campuses and industrial parks, will be prohibited from using potable drinking water to irrigate grass areas not used for recreation or gathering purposes.
The record high rebate incentive is part of Metropolitan Water District’s continuing efforts to boost water efficiency by public agencies and businesses across Southern California to save water, reduce runoff and benefit the local environment.
Eligible projects can range from 250 square feet up to 200,000 square feet, potentially earning a maximum rebate of up to $1,400,000.
In addition, West Basin is providing free landscape consultation and design services valued at up to $5,000. A landscape design is a required document for the grass removal rebate application, so this added complimentary service will keep your landscape transformation costs lower than ever.
The $7 per-square-foot rebate is available only while supplies last and is expected to be fully reserved by Spring 2026, so take advantage of the opportunity to get money back by applying today!
