Homeowners looking to safeguard their properties from wildfire risk are invited to attend a free firescaping workshop on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rolling Hills City Hall. Come for the class, stay for the complimentary dinner and leave with confidence in your ability to protect your home!
Hosted by West Basin Municipal Water District, in partnership with LA County Fire Department, the City of Rolling Hills and California Water Service, the workshop will teach you how to use defensible space principles and fire-resistant landscaping techniques to help protect property during wildfires.
Leading the class is firescaping expert Douglas Kent, MS, MLA, a landscape contractor, educator and author with more than 40 years of experience. Kent has published eight books, including the best-seller Firescaping: Protecting Your Home with a Fire-Resistant Landscape.
Attendees will learn about native plants, property design strategies and practical steps to improve wildfire resilience. The workshop will also feature insights from local fire professionals.
The event is free to the public and includes a complimentary dinner. The first 25 guests will receive a copy of Kent’s book, and all attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a water-saving rain barrel. The winner must be able to transport the barrel home.
Registration is open now so sign up today to reserve your spot at www.WestBasinCA.gov/firescaping.
