School Field Trips start this September. West Basin will open its doors to students in grades 3–12 for engaging behind-the-scenes field trips at ECLWRF. Every year, more than 3,500 students experience the science of water recycling and sustainability in action. Teachers can visit www.westbasin.org/field-trips to be placed on the priority list for 2025-26 tours.
Firescaping Workshops will educate and prepare you to protect your home. Do you live in a fire-prone area? Learn how to protect your property with these expert-led firescaping workshops coming to Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Malibu, Topanga and more. These free classes teach the steps to reduce wildfire risk that provide potentially life-saving information and property protection with an emphasis on proactive prevention. Read about the most recent firescaping class at www.westbasin.org/firescaping. Once event dates are determined, a registration link will be posted.
Rain Barrel Program returns this fall. This rain barrel giveaway is part of our district-wide water efficiency program that aims to reduce demand on imported water supplies by making conservation and water-efficient practices a “California Way of Life.” Did you know that one rain barrel can save up to 620 gallons of water per year? Last year, we distributed 1,500 free 50-gallon barrels that helped residents collect rainwater and cut outdoor water use. If you want one and live in the West Basin service area, join the interest list now at www.westbasin.org/rain-barrels.
Grass Replacement Program gives you money back to ditch your water-greedy grass and replace it with climate-friendly landscaping. West Basin offers rebates starting at $3 per square foot of grass removed, up to $30,000 per project! Plus, we offer free landscape designs AND you can get $100 per tree for up to five trees planted when switching to drought-tolerant landscaping. Residents in the West Basin service area can sign up to be placed on the interest list for rebates at www.westbasin.org/grass-replacement.
Don’t Miss Out!
Dates for rain barrel pickups, firescaping workshops, school field trips and more will be announced soon. Keep checking www.westbasin.org/events for updates and registration info. Together, we’re making water conservation a way of life—join us!
